         ADEN J. BELL
         AWARDED SILVER STAR

Aden J. Bell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aden Bell of Palestine, has by direction of the President of the United States, been awarded the Silver Star.

The Silver Star was Awarded to Bell for the following reasons: for gallantry in action in The Republic of Vietnam on 25 January, 1971.   Staff Sergeant Bell distinguished himself while serving as a platoon sergeant in Company A, 1st Battalion (airmobile), 501st Infantry, during combat operations near Fire Base Helen, Republic of Vietnam.   While on a Search and Secure mission, Sergeant Bell's platoon came under intense automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenade fire.   From his unprotected position, Sergeant Bell directed the suppressive fire of his men which forced the enemy to temporarily withdraw.   Observing several wounded soldiers, he maneuvered forward and carried them to cover before the enemy could regroup.   During an ensuing ground attack, Sergeant Bell was seriously wounded.   Despite his wounds, he subjected himself to hostile fire and flanked an enemy position to divert their fire.   While directing his platoon's withdrawl, he called for and adjusted artillery fire on the enemy positions.   His actions were instrumental in repelling the enemy assaults.   Staff Sergeant Bell's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

Roy Stanford (gruff) in his USMC uniform just after graduating boot camp from Parris Island in 1966.

Pic taken of gruff and his best friend Kevin in hospital after a car accident in 1963. Somebody else was driving and as it usually works out there wasn't a scratch on the driver. The car was totalled after the driver smashed into a tree and gruff had some 80 sutures in his forehead. gruff enlisted in the USMC in 1966 and was often referred to as SCARFACE by the DI's.

Kevin died at age 57 from diabetic complications; the picture on the left was taken at Kevin's highschool graduation.

Mike Adams or Bear. Mike was USMC obviously and while in Vietnam he crewchiefed and window gunned on CH-46 helicopters which were comically called PHROGS.
